The best way to clear the driving test is to practice driving on the expected roads and routes that examiners commonly use to test your driving skills.
Breathe and reset if you make a mistake, and focus on the remaining drive. Panicking or overthinking about one mistake will stack up your mistakes, leading to unexpected results.
-
Warm-up: Take a short half-hour drive before arriving at the centre to bring up your senses to driving mode. -
Early Arrival: Arrive at Tallaght test centre at least 15-20 minutes before the scheduled time of the driving test; carry your learner’s permit and booking confirmation. -
Parking: Enter the parking space in reverse at the test centre to reduce the stress of proving your reversing skill at the beginning of the test. -
Vehicle Check: Double-check your car’s mirror positioning and that all parts of the car are functioning smoothly. Your car must display an L-plate at the front and back, be NCT approved, insured and taxed, and show no warning lights on the dash. -
Master Routes: Strengthen your understanding of the Belgard Road and other roundabouts to master the needed exits and signals. -
Awareness: Be careful about pedestrians, cyclists, and buses when driving through School and Residential areas, especially during the rush hours of the day. -
Traffic Management: Dual Carriageway Traffic tests your speed and merging abilities on fast-moving traffic and multi-lane roads such as the N81. -
Speed Control: Control your speed according to the roads; speed up mindfully on clear roads where the speed limit allows you and slow down on tricky roads and roads where traffic is unexpectedly high.
